Florida House Democrats recently wrote a letter to Fannie Mae about reports that the mortgage giant was using controversial Florida foreclosure law firms to handle Fannie’s foreclosure work in the Sunshine State. The “foreclosure mills” in question are under investigation for fraudulent practices, including the backdating of Assignments of Mortgages.
The lawmakers requested that Fannie, “at the very least,” cut their ties to these mills.
“Why is Fannie Mae using lawyers who are accused of regularly engaging in fraud to kick people out of their homes?” the lawmakers asked.
A Fannie representative told The Washington Post that they “will respond to the questions raised.”
